Candidates for Executive Board Officer

President (2 year term)

Allie Hahn, candidate for re-election

I'm running for re-election because of how fulfilling and valuable the work I've done as part of the union Board so far has been and how much more work there is still to do. Being involved with the union is one of the best ways I feel that I can give back to my colleagues. Building power in the workplace with all of you is also one of the best ways that we can ensure fair wages, safe and respectful working conditions, and protect ourselves and our communities.

Vice-President (1 year term)

Secretary (2 year term)

Vice Steward (1 year term)

Candidates for Member Representative

Branch Representative (2 year term)

There are currently two Branch Representative positions on the ballot.

Ayelet Reiter, candidate for election

I am endlessly grateful for everything the union has done for me and my fellow staff members. I want to be part of ensuring this work continues while also advocating for branch staff. After 4 years at BPL I've found that I love working at a branch but that it can also often feel isolated and like your work is always overlooked. I want to make sure all branch staff feel like their voices are heard and that they can make a difference when it comes to their working conditions.

Maria Gonzalez, candidate for election

I believe I would be a strong candidate for this role because I bring both lived experience and a deep commitment to our community. As a Latina working within BPL, I understand the importance of representation, equity, and ensuring all voices are heard and valued. I am a strong believer in the power of unions to protect workers, build solidarity, and create meaningful change. I’m eager to contribute my perspective, advocate for my colleagues, and help strengthen our collective voice.

Kathleen Clifford, candidate for re-election

I'd like to build on the progress I've made as a Branch Rep and build my knowledge of the grievance process!

Central Representative (2 year term)

There are currently two 2-year term Central Representative positions on the ballot. There are no candidates for the open 1-year position at this time.

Kathleen Monahan, candidate for re-election

Over the past 18 months, I've loved learning so much more about the work everyone does across the system, our shared issues, and how we can work together to create a better BPL. While we've faced some obstacles with our present HR management, I'm incredibly proud of my part in winning grievances for our members' rights, defending my coworkers' jobs as needed, and improving the day to day administrative work of the union. I'm excited at the chance to continue in this role and expand my current work on creating more avenues for members to participate in the union and have their voices heard.

Madeleine Wright, candidate for election

I've been an active member of the union since I started at the BPL and I've been filling in as Secretary on an interim basis coming up on four months now. I think the role of Secretary plays to my strengths in particular because one of the core tasks is listening and making sure everyone's perspectives are reflected in all of our meetings (also, I have a great passion for spreadsheets). Union work has always appealed to me as a way to be an involved and supportive member of my community, and I think that matters now more than ever. I'd love the opportunity to continue.

Amy Layton, candidate for election

I want the Boston Public Library to be the best for my colleagues, which means that I'm committed to my roles on the board. I've already served as a Branch Representative for one term, and have served on the Contract Action Team and the Health & Safety Committee. Recently, I won a grievance for the Library to have a Standard Operation Procedure for when it snows into the weekend and have ensured that the Library remains accountable for Health & Safety issues. I've also enjoyed aggressively flyering neighborhoods and rally up communities to sign on our petitions!

Michael Brown, candidate for re-election

I am running for reelection as a Central Rep because I feel that I do a good job connecting people to the union not just as means for them to know there right but also a a means for people to be connected with one another! It is my goal as your rep to make sure that you are involved but also that you are informed in plain language what is happening around you.

Maty Cropley, candidate for election

Please consider me, Maty Cropley, for this opportunity to serve you my colleagues as a Central Library representative. I can offer my prior experience on the PSA board, as a VP on the state-level executive board to recommend me, and could leverage my anti-surveillance advocacy in the community and for outreach work in the library field to collaborate with other members on fighting for a better workplace and contract. The board is engaging with membership, the City and management every day on challenges we face as library workers, and its important for us union members to step up to do their part, small or large, in this effort. Thank you for your consideration. Peace.

Candidates for Elected Committee

Extended Sick Leave Fund Committee (2 year term)

There are currently three 2-year positions open on this committee. There are no candidates for the open 1-year position at this time.

Veronica Koven-Matasy, candidate for re-election

I have been on the Extended Sick Leave Committee for several years already! This is a small but important way I'm able to give back to the union and my colleagues and I love doing it. We've had more and more requests to draw from the sick bank over the past few years and I think it's helpful to have someone around who's handled working with HR before in order to get them taken care of as quickly as possible. I hope you will never need to draw from the sick bank, but if you need to, I want you to get the time without needing to worry about it!

Elena Rios, candidate for election

Hi BPL! In my last position I was Secretary of our Union. In that time I supported the Board during negotiations, staff communications, and formalized Union practices in regards to digital archiving. While I’d like to step into a higher position eventually I would like to start with the Extended Sick Leave Committee to learn more about the Union and how we have supported staff historically and during this time so that I may understand the needs of our people. I think joining the Union Board and Committees makes me a better worker with a wider perspective of my own actions and those of others. I hope you consider for the position. Thank you.

Elections Committee (2 year term)

There is currently one open position on the Elections Committee.

Julia Blake, candidate for re-election

I have enjoyed being a member of the Extended Sick Leave Committee and would like to continue serving in this role.

Early in my career at the BPL I utilized time from the bank and deeply appreciate the value and importance of this resource for our members.

Magda Morris, candidate for re-election

I started serving in the Elections Committee in 2024 because of Chris Strunk when he was Past President. He knew I was interested in getting involved with the union, but that I had limited time. I appreciated being able to help out in some way to ensure that staff know how important it is to be a part of and to fully use your union, which includes running for office/committees and rocking the vote. I embraced the opportunity to serve again last year and, since I’ve have been enjoying it, would like to continue the work. Thanks!
